A tribute to the stones, natural heritage of the Itria Valley
Trulli are an expression of peasant culture, of a remote civilization based on a perfect symbiosis between man and the natural environment, when the laws of nature were the only rules to be obeyed. “Timeless constructions,” as they were defined by the French historian Emile Bertaux, trulli bear witness to a civilization tied to the land, to the earth as a source of sustenance, to an archaic and authentic feeling.
The trullo is a perfect example of bioclimatic architecture, in which the stratification of stones and the mighty wall thickness provide high insulating properties and significant thermal inertia, such as to ensure an effective natural system of internal temperature regulation in both winter and summer seasons.
Also in the conservative restoration of Trulli Petralma, the use of locally sourced materials, without any use of paints or toxic products, the recovery of the original cistern for rainwater collection and the adoption of green solutions compatible with the territory and not very water-intensive has contributed to make the structure eco-sustainable and energy efficient, harmoniously in tune with the local landscape.
Sleeping under the cone of a trullo is an ancestral, almost mystical experience, in which the silence, the suspended atmosphere, the microclimate instill a sense of welcome, protection and peace and at whose awakening one feels in harmony with nature and fully reconciled with the world. And in the renovated complex of Trulli Petralma it is still possible to relive those atmospheres, sensations and emotions of the time that was, to immerse oneself in a timeless place, to regenerate in the rhythm of nature and to find oneself again.
